Pre stage 1 – Baby Swim


 

 
Tadpoles Birth – 9 months
Key outcomes
1. Gain confidence for parent and baby in the water.
2. Safe entry methods for parent and baby.
3. Introducing baby to water, washing face and hair.
4. Introducing a variety of ways of holding baby in the water.
5. Learning methods of moving baby through the water on their front and back.
6. Encouraging baby to use their legs when moving.
7. Encouraging baby to wash or submerge their face with assistance.
8. Support baby underarms or holding hands into the pool from the side, then returning to the wall with help.
9. Encourage baby to hold onto the side with assistance.
10. Learn different techniques to submerge your baby.

Goldfish 1 year – 3 years
Key outcomes
1. Further child’s water confidence.
2. Child jumping into the pool (assistance if needed).
3. Introduce the child to floatation aids such as woggles, large floats and kick boards.
4. Child to duckling dive from parent/guardian to the wall or another adult.
5. Introduce blowing bubbles to the child.
6. Moving through the water blowing bubbles (parents support).
7. Child to start learning how to use their legs and kick.
8. Using any sort of float child to move through the water (with assistance).
9. Travel through the water reaching for a toy with arms.
